Green Building and LEED Initiatives for Sustainability
The built environment has a profound impact on our natural environment, economy, health, and productivity. Buildings use a considerable amount of natural resources and energy while producing waste and greenhouse gases. W.M. Jordan incorporates the guiding principles of sustainable design while reducing the use of non-renewable resources and minimizing environmental impact. This type of construction is what the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) promotes. They developed the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system to regulate these best practices across the industry. In response, W.M. Jordan has formed an in-house LEED Steering Committee that works with every project to identify and implement green building management, tools and training. We are working to reduce the impact of our buildings on future generations. Our own Richmond office expansion is a LEED Gold Certified building. Our dedication to sustainable practices has earned us recognition, and we are currently ranked 63rd Top Green Contractors of 2010, according to ENR rankings.
